2007-25 Walnut, Kansas
Hello All,
“This isn’t Kansas, Dorothy!” Whoops, yes it is!! This week found us in Southeast Kansas visiting Dave’s cousin Judy and her husband Ted. They live on a farm near Walnut, KS. It had been four years since our last visit so it was fun catching up on all the happenings.
It is always fun seeing the different animals they have on the farm. We were greeted right off the bat by the “cock of the walk”--hence the picture of the week.

This rooster was definitely in
charge around the farm and absolutely afraid of nothing! Judy has named him,
but I’m afraid we can’t repeat it in this family write-up!! He has spurs on the
back of his legs well over an inch long so you definitely didn’t want to get
spurred by him. He chases Judy around the yard anytime she goes outside. However,
they have come to a mutual understanding now that she carries a big stick
whenever she goes outside.
During our stay we attended an evening auction at one of the homes in the area. It was our first auction of this kind, and very interesting. The people had already sold the house and are moving to Florida. They had removed everything that they wanted to keep, and the rest was put in boxes, baskets, laid out on tables or the ground. The auctioneer then proceeded to go right down the line and sell off everything until it was gone. We purchased a laundry basket full of miscellaneous items just for a back scratcher we spotted in it amongst the other treasures.
After we got back to the farm we went through our basket to see what else we had of any value to us. Most of the rest of the stuff stayed at Judy’s for appropriate disposal. But then, we only paid a dollar for the whole basket of stuff. Ted and Judy go to these events all the time, so it was a regular “reunion” for them and many of their neighbors. We made another memory.
Until next time,
