2013-13 Nishinomiya Tsutakawa Japanese Garden, Washington
Hello All,
June found us heading for Spokane, Washington, to visit the Nishinomiya Tsutakawa Japanese Garden located there. Since we hadn’t spent a lot of time in the Spokane area we made reservations for a couple of nights in the city.
Arriving in the early afternoon we decided to check out downtown Spokane before calling it a day. Wow, Spokane Falls is right in the middle of the city—we were impressed! It is actually a series of waterfalls around an island. The city has constructed a number of street and foot bridges across the river. This made for great viewing of the falls. To further enhance the area they built Riverfront Park along one bank of the Spokane River. And, if you want an aerial view of the falls you can take a 20-minute Gondola Skyride across the river.
It was a lousy cloudy afternoon but that didn’t stop us from snapping a few photos. We strolled back and forth across the bridges for different vantage points.

It certainly was not an area
that we would recommend for tubing!
We then took in Riverfront
Park. It was complete with an Imax theatre, lakes, fountains, sculptures,
playgrounds and so forth. It was really quite lovely. This is a totem pole that
caught our eye.
Here is the station where you catch a gondola
for a ride across the river.
However, what really
fascinated us was the Radio Flyer red wagon in the playground for kids. It was
without a doubt the largest red wagon we have ever come across in our travels.
Check out the size of the people to the right side in the following photos.
The wagon tongue is actually a
slide. We thought it was ingenious and extremely well done.
Nishinomiya Tsutakawa Garden
was established in 1974. We had difficulty finding it until we finally figured
out that it was one of many beautiful gardens within Manito Park. This
beautiful 90-acre public park was established in 1903 and has an arboretum,
botanical gardens, and a conservatory.
We found the Japanese Garden to be an awesome blend of soft intermixed colors and gently rounded shapes. While strolling along the paths it made the body and mind relax beyond belief. We would stop or sit on a bench occasionally just to take it all in.

Within the ponds were waterfowl
and Koi that added a special touch to the whole picture.
Rhododendrons were in bloom
which created even more color to the already stunning settings.
The different views were amazing to say the
least.
They have done a wonderful job
of interlacing different shades of red maple trees with a variety of different
shades of green deciduous and evergreen trees.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time
at Nishinomiya Tsutakawa Japanese Gardens. If you ever need to refresh the mind
and soul we highly recommend it as a place to get the job done.
Our next forays will take us along many of the scenic byways of central Idaho. Hope to share the trip with you.
Until next time,
