2007-7 Sleeping Beauty, Telico Lake, Tennessee
Hello All,
We are happy to report that the skies are clear and temperatures are in the upper 70's and low 80's. The birds are back and empty the bird feeders almost daily. Ahhhh life is good. We've had a lot of fun watching the many different types of birds coming to the feeders. We've seen sparrows, chickadees, gold finches, cardinals, blue birds, titmice, and more. When we don't recognize a particular bird, it’s fun looking them up in our bird book.
Barb's sister's husband Rich arrived on Wednesday and spent the last four days with us. It was fun showing him around the area-- Rock City, Dollywood, Cherohala Skyway, the Lost Sea, and a day cruising on the boat. We do have to tell a little story on Rich though. Most people when they go on a boat ride are excited and like looking at the scenery. Rich just crashed! He fell asleep and slept, and slept, and slept--hence the picture of the week. Rich was suffering a bit of a head cold and had a headache when he got on the boat. So he took a couple of Tylenol that he brought with him. The next day after closer inspection what he had taken was Tylenol PM, which is a sleep aid!! We all had a good laugh over that. Wow, we can testify that they really work.

Bright and early on Saturday
morning we drove to Pigeon Forge, TN. Our destination was Dollywood. On the way
over we told Rich about our first time to Pigeon Forge in the fall of 2001. We
told him about the big car show that was going on and how people would line the
sidewalks for miles with their lawn chairs so they could watch the cars cruise
the boulevard. It would take us an hour or so to travel a mile in the heavy
traffic, but seeing the thousands of classic cars and street rods was
fascinating. Well wouldn't you know it, when we got to Pigeon Forge there was a
big car show in the area. Traffic was horrendous!! We later learned that these
events take place the 3rd week in April and September annually!!
Dollywood was fun. They were celebrating the Festival of Nations until mid May. We got to see the National Dance Company of Ireland present the Rhythm of Dance. They featured traditional and contemporary Irish dance, music, and song. It was fantastic. Another group that really blew us away was Sadiki--Stiks on Steel. Sadiki is an ensemble of steel-pan instruments. The members are from the Islands of Trinidad and Tobago and they have performed from France to Beijing, China. They play a wide variety of music ranging from Calypso, Reggae, and Latin to Big-Band, Jazz, Pop, light Classics, and even Country. If you ever get a chance we highly recommend seeing them.
Until next time,
