2011-52 Fall Colors, Michigan
Hello
All,
From Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, we crossed over the International Bridge to Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. We thoroughly enjoyed our trek around Lake Superior. It is truly a “superior lake.” We are still amazed by the fact that there is enough water in it to cover both North and South America with a foot of water!
We picked up I-75 southbound till we reached the little town of Grayling, MI where we secured a motel room for the night. Trees in the area were nearing their prime fall colors.
Mother Nature was not cooperating with us though, as we had a solid overcast sky—bummer! In spite of the lousy weather we drove the back roads admiring the natural color pallet. In our eyes it was absolutely awesome. We can only imagine what it would have been like on a blue sky day. None of these photos have been photo-shopped. They are all in their natural color—so brilliant it is hard to believe.

This
little Baptist Church was nestled in amongst some colorful trees.
The
variety of colors of the hardwood trees was mind boggling. They vary in
combinations of red, orange, yellow and maroon. Some trees had changed fully to
their fall colors while others hadn’t even started. Yet others were in between
with both green and a multitude of other bright colors—simply beautiful!
Then
you mix in the deep green hues of evergreens and it becomes even more
spectacular. We were like kids in a candy store looking every direction and enjoying
every minute of our adventure—truly making a memory.
Every
now and then we came across lone sentinels that just stood out in all their
glory.
Since
we love color so much one of our favorite things to do is to fill the
viewfinder with the color from Mother Nature, whether it is trees or flowers. It’s
all about bright colors and contrast. We call them our screen saver photos.
Here are a few examples.
After
a night at the motel we hoped to awake to a bright sunny day. But, that didn’t
happen. We were once again socked in with a low overcast sky. So we continued
south on I-75 and stopped in Saginaw, MI for some breakfast. Around the
restaurant we came across a flower that was new to us. We later learned that it
was called a Popcorn Flower. Not sure how it got its name. It wouldn’t be
placed on our list of beautiful flowers—just different. As a matter of fact it
looks more like moose droppings piled carefully on top of it than popcorn!
Our
next adventure will take us back across the border into Canada. But, more on
that later.
Until next time,
