Pictures of the Week 2008-3
Hello All,
San Diego harbor is immense and the city has a beautiful waterfront. Our ship the Ryndam and another cruise ship were tied up at the dock when we arrived.
San Diego harbor is immense and the city has a beautiful waterfront. Our ship the Ryndam and another cruise ship were tied up at the dock when we arrived.
The embarkation process went
smoothly and our first stop onboard was our stateroom--it was outstanding! We
then checked the ship out from bow to stern including many of the fourteen
decks. The pools, hot tubs, dining rooms, casino, theaters, lounges, etc. were
all well appointed.
First thing on the agenda
before the ship departed was an emergency drill where everyone had to assembled
at their assigned lifeboat stations. The ships crew took this quite serious. We
received a thorough briefing on what to do in case of an emergency--signaled by
seven short and one long blast on the ships horns. We had to wear our life preservers and each
person was checked to see that you had them on correctly. They then called roll
to ensure that everyone on board was present. If you weren’t there they sent a
crew member after you.
The evening sun was shining on
the San Diego skyline as we were departing the harbor. In our eyes it made for a lovely photo.
As we steamed out of the
harbor we passed lots of navy ships. And, there were many naval helicopters
scurrying here and there. It made you proud seeing this mighty armada.
We spent the next two days at
sea cruising to our first port of call--Puerto Vallarta.
