2007-36 Festival of Masters, Orlando, Florida
Hello All,
Since arriving in Florida the weather has been absolutely fantastic, with temperatures in the high 70’s or low 80’s. Oranges on the orange trees are about ready for picking. It is a lovely time of year here in the Sunshine State.
We have been busy doing our annual doctor checkups. Dave has still been having chest pain and his cardiologist doesn’t agree with the cardiologist in Tennessee. He thinks Dave has a blockage. So, he is scheduled for a heart catheterization next week. That combined with getting a handle on our new diabetic diet has kept us both pretty busy.
That’s enough of this medical stuff. This week found us at the 32nd annual Festival of the Masters at Downtown Disney. The festival showcased 160 artists from across the nation. In order to be considered for this exhibit, an artist must have previously obtained an award from a juried art show. After a rigorous application process, a panel of industry experts selected the top artists to participate. The works displayed this year included a diverse assortment of paintings, photography, glass works, sculptures, prints, drawings, jewelry, and digital art. There were some fantastic pieces.

Also taking place at Downtown
Disney was a competition of sidewalk chalk artists. They first accomplished the
layout of their work on the sidewalk, and then started building the piece. An
interesting observation was that most of the artists were female. We overheard
one of them tell a person in the crowd that they were selected to participate
by the art teacher at their respective high schools. There was some real talent
amongst these artists, and we thoroughly enjoyed the fruits of their labor.
Would you believe there was a
third art show going on in Downtown Disney. It was a Folk Art Show. In our
opinions this was some of the ugliest “art” we have ever seen. Guess it is all
in the eye of the beholder!!
Until next time,
