2007-33 Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina
Hello All,
This week was all about color. In this part of the country the third week in October is the prime week for fall foliage. We spent a good part of the week traveling mountain roads taking it all in--it was truly amazing.
Our first trip was into North Carolina where we picked up the Blue Ridge Parkway. Our intent was to follow it to Asheville and then spend the day at the Biltmore Estate. We still have complementary tickets from our visit there earlier in the year. However, the colors along the parkway were so fantastic we ended up spending the entire day taking photo after photo. The Biltmore Estate will have to wait until another day.

Another adventure found us on
the Foothills Parkway in East Tennessee. This ridge top road offered great
color and a side road led us to the little community of “Top of the World.”
This rustic mountain community has their own private lake. On the lake they
have a lovely little chapel that sits on a point of land surrounded by water.
What a wonderful place to get away from the stresses of life. While taking
photos of the chapel we came across a huge wasp nest hanging in a tree. It
looked like the type you used to see in cartoons in the old days.
Without a doubt the Cherohala
Skyway in Tennessee and North Carolina was Mother Nature’s most aggressive
pallet of color. The only way to describe it would be mile after mile of sheer
beauty!! We enjoyed it so much we made a second trip to see it all again.
From the Skyway we took side
trips along the Tellico River, Bald River Falls, and Indian Boundary Lake.
It seems like every time we
drive these scenic byways we find another side road that takes us to a
discovery of a picturesque lake, a hidden waterfall, a quaint little community
or campground that we didn’t know existed. We sure do love exploring.
Until next time,
